Tonya Gaither –Elementary Teacher of the Year Eveline Rickman –Secondary Teacher of the Year
Roxton ISD celebrated Staff Appreciation Week on Tuesday, May 2nd, with dinner and staff awards at the Roxton Grocery and Cafe.
Service awards/pins were given to Tony Boss (5 yrs), Valorie Wood (10 years), Melissa Albus (15 years), and Tonya Gaither (15 years). "We thank these staff members who give of their time and talent to Roxton ISD! Each of them contributes in a very positive way to our Roxton ISD team," said Superintendent Kelly Pickle.
The district also named their Teachers if the Year for 2018. Tonya Gaither was named Elementary Teacher of the Year and Eveline Rickman is the Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Tonya teaches 4th and 5th grade Math and Science and has 15 years of teaching experience. She is a Paris Jr. college and Texas A&M, Commerce graduate and has a specialization in Reading. She credits Virginia Turner, the first grade teacher at Honey Grove several years ago, with inspiring her to become a teacher. Her students are her favorite part of the job, and she hopes to instill in them a love of learning, and hopes they look back in their time in her class feeling that she made a difference in their life.
Eveline teaches junior high language arts, reading, and social studies, and has been teaching for 24 years. She is a graduate of Paris Jr. College and Texas A&M, Commerce, and has her Master's degree as well. She is currently working on her principal's certification. She says that her mother, Aline Rickman, inspired her to become a teacher, and that she's always wanted to teach. Her favorite part of her job is seeing her students improve on a daily basis. She hopes to inspire her students to be lifelong learners, to leave their mark on the world, and to respect themselves and others.
"Tonya Gaither and Eveline Rickman are both dedicated, caring teachers, who help their students beyond the classroom. When they know there is a need, they help! We are so glad to be able to honor them for the work they do for our students at Roxton ISD," Kelly Pickle said.
The staff enjoyed a wonderful meal and fellowship together as part of their Staff Appreciation Week activities.
"We're blessed to be at Roxton ISD working with these amazing people!"
